The MR POCKET Development Standard defines how an equipment idea moves from a field problem to something we are willing to put our name on. It is deliberately stricter than a launch calendar. Development status remains visible until the relevant obligations have been met.
00 — Field Obligation
Every program begins with a real job. What is frustrating, slow, fragile, awkward, unsafe, wasteful, or disconnected in the current field workflow? A product that cannot state the problem clearly does not advance.
01 — Requirements
The problem is converted into measurable design obligations: use conditions, ergonomics, strength, compatibility, carry, cleaning, service, environmental exposure, manufacturing constraints, and failure conditions. Features are not requirements unless they solve a defined job.
02 — Engineering
Geometry, materials, interfaces, load paths, hydraulics where applicable, manufacturing strategy, tolerances, assembly, and serviceability are developed around those requirements. Appearance is allowed to become distinctive only after function has a reason for the shape.
03 — Prototype
Prototypes exist to answer questions, not to create launch photography. Fit, reach, balance, motion, interfaces, clearances, material behavior, and obvious failure modes are checked before the design earns more expensive validation.
04 — Bench & Abuse Validation
The program is challenged outside ideal use: repeated load, impact, contamination, wear, heat, cold, water, dirt, grit, UV exposure, cleaning, assembly cycles, and other conditions relevant to the product. Test methods vary by program. Passing criteria must be defined before a result is treated as proof.
05 — Field Validation
The product is used where it is supposed to work, through realistic recovery cycles and real field constraints. We look for failures that a clean bench cannot reveal: fatigue, awkward handoffs, snagging, contamination, poor balance, slow reset, interference, cleaning problems, and behavior that changes after hours instead of minutes.
06 — Revision Freeze
Lessons from validation are incorporated. Critical geometry, interfaces, materials, and requirements are frozen only when changes stop solving meaningful failures and start creating new uncertainty.
07 — Production Validation
The production process must preserve the reasons the product worked as a prototype. Tooling, material, tolerances, assembly, quality checks, packaging, service parts, documentation, and repeatability are validated before production claims are treated as final.
08 — Release
Release is the result of evidence, not a date chosen by marketing. Final specifications, compatibility, production materials, warranty terms, pricing, and performance claims are published only when they are supportable for the production configuration.
The release gate
A product does not pass because it looks finished. It passes when its defined job, failure modes, manufacturing reality, customer use, and support obligations are understood well enough that MR POCKET can stand behind it.
